About Barbes Restaurant
The brainchild of Omar Balouma & Abdellah Ksiyer, New York City’s acclaimed Barbès Restaurant is the result of their collective restaurant experiences and North African cultures.

It is named after the famous Paris neighborhood at the foot of the Sacré-Cœur, known as a little piece of North Africa. To call their establishment Barbès is to pay tribute to the vibrant essence of that neighborhood, a melting pot of Parisian and North African culture, cuisine, music & decor.

With a menu that takes its lead from Morocco, North Africa’s culinary star, and a cozy atmosphere echoing the bistros of Paris, they have managed to transport people to a foreign land.

‘Our restaurant strives to bring the atmosphere of Barbès here in New York. Through our menu and ambiance we aim to immerse our clientele in the unique tastes, sounds & styles of Barbès.’

- Omar & Abdellah

Customer service was great! Host immediately took our coats and invited us to pick our table. The food came out quick and the boss even invited us to some Moroccan tea at the end of our meal. We had the Royal couscous, tangine seabass and a Moroccan dessert. Royal couscous was a huge portion (ended up taking it to go), although not necessarily as good as I remember it from when I had it in Marrakech a few years ago. The dessert was light, crispy and delicious!

I ate there recently and was nicely surprised. The entry was a mix of four salads, all of them delicious, with warm pita bread . The lamb couscous was nicely served although a little bit bland for my taste. They said it was the traditional way to do it. And the dessert, a "pastille au lait" was out of this world!!

Superb food - I took the special which was red snapper served with vegetables. Cooked to perfection, best tasting dinner I've had in a while...!! Thank you Barbes, I will be recommending. Definitely a great choice for a casual, not to casual; quiet, but not too quiet dinner in Midtown Manhattan.

Great food! Just a shame the service wasn't great, a bit slow despite being not busy on a Saturday eve, but not terrible. Then at the end they put 20% automatically on the bill - why oh why do places do that, it causes such bad feeling is it really worth it?

Good Moroccan food, a little bit on the expensive side. The service was very attentive but they include the tip in the check, which in my opinion should not be done.

Throughly enjoyed the food. Started with lentil soup which was good followed by roasted egg plant and Moroccan pastry for appetizer which were both delicious. For main I had the lamb stew which was nicely seasoned and very tender. Service was reasonably fast and courteous. All and all a good experience.

Very convenient to the Morgan Library, but a destination as well. My first experience with Moroccan cuisine and it was delightful. Nice middle-eastern ambience, full with a lunch crowd of middle-eastern men and tourists. I enjoyed the artichoke with mustard vinaigrette, a unique combination to me. Couscous was an excellent base for the vegetable stew But most unique was the Pastilla which was a new experience and quite good.
